The novel ‘Wool’ by Hugh Howey has been spreading like wildfire! I heard about it recently due to someone I know very well raving about it’s amazingness. So, naturally we all expected someone to snatch up the rights, and they have been snatched. Deadline has reported that Fox has acquired the rights to the novel, which is set in a stark future; the air outside is no longer breathable, so the last community on Earth lives underground in an enormous silo. Survival is everything, and some will do anything to ensure it. The upcoming Shift Trilogy is a prequel to the story of Wool. The novel was an e-book sensation, which was self-published by Howey, and has received 600+ 5 star reviews on Amazon. The novel has sold over 140,000 copies in around 6 months! ‘The 39 Clues’ Lands a Director

For about four years, fans of the cross-media ( and very entertaining! ) series ’39 Clues’ didn’t have much to chew on when it came to movie news. Actually, they had nothing to chew on but the production company. According to ComingSoon.net, Shawn Levy is hired by DreamWorks and will direct the film.

In case you aren’t familiar with this series, written by a variety of authors such as Rick Riordan, Gordon Korman, Peter Lerangis, Jude Watson, Patrick Carman, Linda Sue Park, Margaret Peterson Haddix, Roland Smith, and David Baldacci; here is a brief synopsis.

The story revolves around the Cahills – the most powerful family the world has ever known – the source of whose power is a mystery that can only be unraveled by assembling 39 clues hidden around the world throughout history. Combining reading with online gaming and collecting, this breakthrough concept is uniquely positioned to reach millions of young people who are readers, gamers, collectors, or all three, and encourage them to participate in the hunt for the 39 clues.

Draft of ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ Script is Complete – Producer Says ‘It Will Happen’

Fans of the novel ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ by John Green, such as myself, will be happy to discover that the movie adaptation is going to happen. The film was optioned by Fox 2000, and the guys behind the amazing film (500) Days of Summer have completed a draft of the screenplay. Wyck Godfrey, the producer, tweeted:

When a fan replied, ‘If this happens I will flip!’ Godfrey responded, ‘It WILL happen. Start practicing your flips.’ The novel tells the story of a sixteen year old girl named Hazel Lancaster who has relied on an oxygen tank to breathe since her Thyroid cancer spread to her lungs. Due to depression she begins to (unhappily) attend a weekly support group, where she meets a boy named Augustus Waters. He teaches her that she isn’t unextraordinary, and they share an epic love story that explores the nature of humans to believe that if they don’t become a rock star or become famous, they don’t matter. I felt that it proved that just being, is reason enough to matter. It’s a very moving story that creates different feelings in every reader but is relatable to all, I think. So excited to see what they do with this film!

Charlie Kaufman To Adapt First Novel of Dystopian Trilogy ‘Chaos Walking’ For Lionsgate

Lionsgate has all the reason to love the dystopian genre, with ‘Hunger Games’ exploding into a super hit. According to Deadline, they have signed Charlie Kaufman to adapt the first novel in the trilogy ‘Chaos Walking,’ by Patrick Ness. The series is about the only boy left in a city of men, where an infection has caused everyone to be able to hear each-other’s thoughts. You can read a full plot synopsis below, as well. Charlie Kaufman is an interesting choice to adapt the material, because it is likely we’ll get an interesting, less-straight-laced adaptation – he also was the screenwriter for ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,’ and ‘Being John Malcovitch.’ He definetly is one to take creative liberties and take the films in new, artistic, and interesting directions – this won’t just be a page by page adaptation.

Plot Synopsis: Todd Hewitt is the only boy in a town of men. Ever since the settlers were infected with the Noise germ, Todd can hear everything the men think, and they hear everything he thinks. Todd is just a month away from becoming a man, but in the midst of the cacophony, he knows that the town is hiding something from him — something so awful Todd is forced to flee with only his dog, whose simple, loyal voice he hears too. With hostile men from the town in pursuit, the two stumble upon a strange and eerily silent creature: a girl. Who is she? Why wasn’t she killed by the germ like all the females on New World? Propelled by Todd’s gritty narration, readers are in for a white-knuckle journey in which a boy on the cusp of manhood must unlearn everything he knows in order to figure out who he truly is.

Mark Gatiss Reveals How BBC Sherlock Series 3 Will Begin – Filming in 2013

Mark Gatiss, co-creator of BBC Sherlock, has revealed that the first episode of the third series, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, will be based on The Adventure of the Empty House by Arthur Conan Doyle. The Telegraph quotes Gatiss: “There’s certain things about The Adventure Of The Empty House which feel set in stone because that’s how Sherlock comes back, but at the same time we feel free to invent and to introduce new stuff to it.” He also reveals that Martin Freeman’s Watson won’t be quite as understanding about the faked death as the version of Watson in the books, saying “I always found it a little unlikely that Dr Watson’s only reaction was to faint for instance – as supposed to possibly a stream of terrible swear words.” Series three of Sherlock will be filmed and most likely also be released, in 2013. Can’t wait!

Peter Jackson Responds To ‘The Hobbit’ Footage Criticism

Peter Jackson responded to some luke-warm reactions to the new footage from ‘The Hobbit,’ that was shown at Cinemacon. Some people criticized the new frame-rate of 48 FPS, saying it was “too jarring” for casual movie-goers. Having double the frames per second makes the film more sharp, easy on the eyes in 3D and makes the screen look like a a “window” into another world. However, people are also saying the super-realistic footage makes it more obvious that the set is just that, a set, and these people on screen are just actors, not the actual characters. On the criticism, Peter Jackson told Entertainment Weekly, “At first it’s unusual because you’ve never seen a movie like this before. It’s literally a new experience, but you know, that doesn’t last the entire experience of the film–not by any stretch, [just] 10 minutes or so. That’s a different experience than if you see a fast-cutting montage at a technical presentation.” To the nay-sayers, Jackson admits, “I can’t say anything. Just like I can’t say anything to someone who doesn’t like fish. You can’t explain why fish tastes great and why they should enjoy it.”

Director Rupert Sanders Used His Own Blood For ‘Snow White & the Huntsman’ Scene

A new article from the Los Angeles Times reveals that ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ director Rupert Sanders will make small sacrifices to make his movie the best it can be!

Early in “Snow White and the Huntsman,” several droplets of blood fall to the frozen ground in extreme slow motion, a sample not only of the menace to follow but also of first-time director Rupert Sanders’ truly painstaking attention to detail.
The shot was the last sequence filmed by the veteran commercial director, and no matter how hard the crew tried, the production’s artificial serum never had the proper viscosity or splatter. “It just looked like raspberry jam,” Sanders said. So Sanders insisted that a crew member draw about 10 teaspoons of the director’s own blood in a syringe, and that’s what audiences will see when “Snow White” opens June 1.”

The article also reveals some other interesting facts about the film, including that Chris Hemsworth’s Huntsman used to be a strong warrior, but has turned into somewhat of a drunk after his wife was murdered. Hemsworth calls the character a “tortured soul.”

Red Band Trailer for ‘Hick’ Released – Starring Chloe Moretz, Blake Lively, Eddie Redmayne

The red band trailer for ‘Hick’ has been released, which is based on the novel by Andrea Portes. The official plot synopsis shares that the film is about small town teenager Luli (CHLOË GRACE MORETZ), who escapes to Las Vegas, leaving behind her alcoholic and abusive parents. Armed with her smarts, a pistol and pomcket money, she hitchhikes her way west. Along the way, Luli crosses paths with Eddie (EDDIE REDMAYNE), an unstable rebel with questionable motives and Glenda (BLAKE LIVELY), a cocaine-snorting drifter on the run.

The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2011, and will be available on VOD May 11th.

Rooney Mara To Star in Adaptation of ‘Brooklyn’ by Colm Toibin

Rooney Mara of ‘The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’ fame has been cast in the lead of an upcoming big-screen adaptation of ‘Brooklyn’ by Colm Toibin. The best-selling novel tells the story of a girl who is torn between her family in Ireland, and her relationship with an American in Brooklyn. The film has a lot going for it, with the amazing team behind the Carey Mulligan-led movie ‘An Education,’ and a script by Nick Hornby! The film will be shot in Brooklyn and Ireland in 2013, with a budget of $25 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Jennifer Lawrence In Talks To Star in Adaptation of ‘The Glass Castle’ by Jeannette Walls

Deadline is reporting that Jennifer Lawrence is in talks to star in the adaptation of The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. The rights were were originally bought in 2005, but they were recently acquired by Erik Fieg, newly appointed head of production at both Summit and Lionsgate. This is exciting for me, since I loved this book! It was one of the few books I’ve read for school, and actually enjoyed. Plus, Jennifer Lawrence? Amazing! It’s a great role for her: brave, strong, smart, and independent. The true story follows the author, Jeannette, throughout her life with her “dysfunctional but vibrant” family. Gil Getter (Life of Pi) will produce, and Marti Noxon will be writing the screenplay.
