Viola Davis in Negotiations for Beautiful Creatures

It was announced today that The Help‘s Viola Davis is a candidate for the upcoming film adaptation of the supernatural romance Beautiful Creatures. If cast, Davis will portray the character of Amma, the strict and knowledgeable housekeeper and caretaker of main character Ethan Wate.

According to the Beautiful Creatures website, authors Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl are ecstatic about Davis’ involvement.

…We can’t begin to express our excitement! We are both HUGE fans of Viola Davis, and we cannot think of a better choice!

Filming in scheduled to begin in April in and around the city of New Orleans, Louisiana.

Taylor Swift Out, Samantha Barks In As Eponine in ‘Les Misérables’

Tom Hooper’s ‘Les Misérables’ producer, Cameron Mackintosh, announced that stage actress Samantha Barks has been chosen to play Eponine, during the curtain call of Oliver! This is the same role that Mackintosh cast Barks in for a 2005 Les Misérables concert.

“He told the cast and audience that he had a big announcement to make before flying to America, and then revealed that Barks would be taking the role of Eponine.
It seems to have come as a surprise to Barks – audience members reported that ‘the look on her face was priceless.’”

Are you happy or sad that Taylor Swift did not take/get (we’re not sure) the role?

John Green’s ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ Optioned By Fox

The Fault in Our Stars, by John Green, is about a 16-year-old girl whose life is pleasantly upended when she falls for a boy who joins her cancer support group. It was optioned for producer Wyck Godfrey by Fox 2000, the 20th Century Fox division run by Elizabeth Gabler. Godfrey’s company Temple Hill has worked on a number of high profile children’s book-to-film productions including the Twilight saga (with Summit Entertainment) and Eragon. Gabler is overseeing the project along with Fox 2000 v-p of production, Erin Siminoff. via Publishers Weekly

Collider.com has released the first still from the zombie love story Warm Bodies, an adaptation of the novel by Isaac Marion. The film stars Nicholas Hoult as ‘R,’ a zombie, who eventually falls in love with a human named Julie, played by Teresa Palmer. The film was directed by Jonathan Levine of 50/50 fame, which makes me extremely excited since I loved that film! What do you think of this first glimpse of R in Warm Bodies?

Taylor Swift has been chosen as Tom Hooper’s choice for Eponine in ‘Les Miserables,’ according to TwitchFilm. The major adaptation of the beloved play stars Hugh Jackman, Helena Bonham Carter, Russell Crowe, Sacha Baron Cohen and Anne Hathaway. Others that auditioned for the role included Lea Michele, Scarlett Johansson, and Evan Rachel Wood. The plot is quite complex but a simple version is that it follows a criminal (Jean Valjean, Hugh Jackman), who changes his ways to become a good man. He rescues the daughter of a dying woman named Cosette (film role offered to Amanda Seyfried) and goes on the run from an obsessed detective, Javert (Russel Crowe).

Les Misérables Cast to Sing Live on Set

According to an anonymous source quoted by Slash Film, director Tom Hooper plans to have the cast of the upcoming movie sing live in front of the camera. While the usual procedure is to record music prior to filming and lip-sync while shooting, Hooper instead seems to be aiming for a traditional Broadway feel for this latest incarnation of the Victor Hugo tale. While some of the cast members may not be as experienced in live musical performances, others will be returning to their roots. Hugh Jackman has appeared in numerous musical productions, as has Aaron Tveit, and Anne Hathaway was almost cast as Johanna in Sweeny Todd.
