Reiner’s film has been drawing comparisons to his earlier film “Stand By Me“, in addition to critical praise. Says Reiner: “Just like ‘Stand By Me’, I connected very deeply with the first feeling of falling in love…that’s why we set it in the same time period.” Read more in the Press Association.

Callan McAuliffe, the young star of Rob Reiner’s upcoming film “Flipped“, based off the novel by Wendenlin Van Draanen, is featured in today’s edition of “The Australian“.
On set for “I Am Number Four“, directed by D.J. Caruso and produced by Steven Spielberg and Michael Bay, McAuliffe answered questions about his future plans. “I never thought acting would be my life,” he says, “I only started doing it because I needed something to occupy my weekends after I dislocated my knee and couldn’t play sport.”

“Flipped” premieres August 6 in limited release and August 27 everywhere.

Share your excitement over Rob Reiner’s upcoming film “Flipped”, based off of the novel by Wendelin Van Draanen, by purchasing a movie poster!
The poster features Bryce and Juli, hands linked, sitting in Juli’s precious sycamore tree. They never end up experiencing this moment together, because by the time Bryce falls for Juli, their opportunity to sit in the sycamore together has passed. There are two versions of this poster: one where their hands are visible, resting on the viewer’s side of the tree branch (here), and the one pictured above, where their hands are hidden.
An early teaser poster featured young Bryce and Juli running past a tree with the inscription, “You Never Forget Your First Love”:

The movie releases August 6 (limited) and August 27 (everywhere). The trailer is viewable on YouTube.

Entertainment critic Patrick Goldstein raved over upcoming film “Flipped” in a recent issue of the Los Angeles Times. Calling the cast “stellar”, Goldstein states that the film is as much for adults as for kids.
Director Rob Reiner discovered the story while reading with his grade-age son for school. At his son’s suggestion, Reiner investigated the possibility of adapting “Flipped” for the big screen. The book was, at the time, optioned to Kelly Gonda, complete with a screenplay by Nora Ephron (who wrote the screenplay to Reiner’s “When Harry Met Sally“). When Gonda left the movie business, Reiner snapped up the rights and changed the setting from present-day to the 1950s.
Early screenings reveal that young and elder audiences agree on the film’s merit. Young audiences appreciate the youthful story, while older audiences are inspired to nostalgia. The movie even reminds Reiner of his first love—and the kiss that went awry. The innocence of the ‘50s and the important values emphasized in the story combine to create an engaging and emotionally stirring film.

The film adaptation of he-said/she-said novel “Flipped”, by Wendelin Van Draanen, is hitting theaters next month. The romantic adventures of Bryce Loski and Julianna Baker, antagonistic neighbors who alternate ignoring and pursuing each other, are the core of this sincere story about growing up, missed chances, and first love.
The movie is helmed by director Rob Reiner, powerhouse behind such films as “Stand By Me“, “When Harry Met Sally”, and “The Princess Bride”. A Warner Bros. Pictures and Castle Rock Entertainment production, the film stars Callan McAuliffe, Madeline Carroll, John Mahoney, Aidan Quinn, Rebecca De Mornay, Penelope Ann Miller, Anthony Edwards, and Kevin Weisman.
“Flipped” will be in limited release on August 6 and wide release starting August 27. Mark your calendars for opening weekend! Watch the trailer here.

EXCERPT: I chased Bryce up the walkway, and that’s when everything changed. You see, I caught up to him and grabbed his arm, trying to stop him so maybe we could play a little before he got trapped inside, and the next thing I know, he’s holding my hand, looking right into my eyes. My heart stopped. It just stopped beating. And for the first time in my life, I had that feeling…I almost got my first kiss that day. I’m sure of it. (p. 13-14)
