In a new interview, Shailene Woodley speaks out about her character being cut from Amazing Spider-Man 2, and mentina that she will most likely not be in the third film.
A few weeks ago, it was announced that Shailene Woodley’s character would be cut from ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2′ as they didn’t feel it was the right time to introduce her character (Mary Jane Watson), as they wanted more focus on the death of Gwen Stacey (Emma Stone) – and to introduce a future love interest for Peter Parker around the same time just didn’t feel right. In the video below, Shailene explains why she was cut from the film, and more that she most likely won’t be involved in any future Spider-Man films.
“Mary Jane was in four scenes in the whole film and it didn’t make sense…they’re introducing so many new characters, it really didn’t make sense to introduce such a vital character to the comic books in a movie that had so much else going on, so they’re holding off for future films. But, that being said – it is one of the best scripts I have ever read, and that’s not a lie.”
When asked on why they can’t just put the scenes she filmed for ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2′ into the third film, Shailene replies:
“There’s not even a screenplay – I don’t believe – for the third one…by the time that they’d have shot it it’ll be so many years from now, none of us will necessarily look the same anymore, you know? So those scenes are gone.
