Writer/director Chris Weitz is no stranger to adaptations with his previous features About a Boy, New Moon, and The Golden Compass and it is about to get a little more personal. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Brothers has secured the rights to Weitz’s novel, The Young World, which is set to be published sometime this year. Weitz will not only serve as director on the project, but also produce and pen the screenplay. Andrew Miano, who has worked with Weitz on numerous films, including The Golden Compass and Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, will also serve as a producer on the film.
The Young World synopsis:
The books center on teenage survivors who inherit a destroyed and desolate earth, after a cataclysmic event kills off every person on earth not between the ages of 12 and 21. Ill-equipped to restore society to working order, the surviving residents of New York City must try to rebuild their world from the ground up.
