The highly popular series by best-selling author James Patterson is on its way to the big screen.
Maximum Ride is divided into 8 books telling the story of Max, Fang, Iggy, Nudge, Gazzy and Angel collectively known as ‘The Flock’. These kids are not ordinary kids though, they are human-avian hybrids created in a lab by evil scientists. That’s right, they can all fly, as well as a variety of other powers that each of they develop as the adventure progresses.
“Six children genetically cross-bred with avian DNA, complete with wings, take flight cross-country to discover their origins.”
Author James Patterson was recently named as #1 Highest Paid Author of 2012:
“The crime novelist ranked as No. 1 on Forbes’ list. This should come as no surprise considering that Patterson published 13 novels this year, including a new installment in his “Alex Cross” series, about a psychologist who often works with the government. Titles of his such as “Along Came a Spider” have been adapted for TV and film, and a movie adaptation of his “Maximum Ride” series is planned for 2013. Forbes estimates Patterson’s 2012 earnings at $94 million”
Columbia Pictures was reported to acquire screen rights to Maximum Ride in early 2010, but according to the series Official Facebook Page it looks like they have moved to Universal Pictures.
Seaside Entertainment’s Avi Arad (X-Men, Spider Man) Ari Arad, and Steven Paul will produce. Don Payne (Rise of The Silver Surfer, My Super Ex-Girlfriend, The Simpsons) is in charge of the screenplay. James Patterson will be executive producing, so hopefully the film will remain true to the original story. Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight), and James Patterson have been rumored to direct.
Maximum Ride has an estimated release of 2014, and it’s expected to begin filming in early 2013 with a yet-to-be-announced cast.
Some fans have picked Saoirse Ronan, Alex Pettyfer, Colin Ford, Emma Rayne Lyle, Willow Smith, and Josh Hutcherson for the main characters. Who would YOU cast for each role? Sound off in the comments section below!
