I had a great time visiting the editing room of ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2′! The coolest part of the visit for me was just seeing how a director works with their editors on a film, in a small, non-descript room…but it’s where the huge phenomenon of a movie is basically created! Especially with a movie as special-effects-heavy as ‘Breaking Dawn – Part 2,’ the movie pretty much comes to life in that editing room. Seeing unfinished footage with partially-created CGI effects was so interesting and made me even more excited for the movie release, when we’ll be able to see it completed. It also just made me realize how much work goes into a special effects shot that flashes by for just a few seconds in the final product. Virginia Katz is the editor of the film, and you can see her in the image above on the right. I can’t actually share anything about the footage we saw, but I will say that Kristen Stewart is an awesome vampire! We had a great little Q&A with Bill Condon after watching the footage, that I’ll eventually be able to post.
After our Q&A we gave Bill Condon a trophy with all the fansite names as a little surprise (Page to Premiere’s ‘Twilight’ news can be reached at HisGoldenEyes.com). He was so genuinely excited to see the trophy, and it was great. Kudos to Laura of The Twilight Lexicon for setting it up! We also gave him a card that sang ‘A Thousand Years’ by Christina Perri! You can check out some great photos of Bill Condon checking out his ‘Lion and Lamb’ award in the editing room below, thanks to Sheila of Team-Twilight.com.
After the visit to the editing room we headed over to the Lionsgate & Summit headquarters and got to watch a pre-screening of The Perks of Being a Wallflower starring Emma Watson, Logan Lerman, and Ezra Miller. The novel, by Stephen Chbosky, is so important to many people and I was so worried that the deep, emotional themes and issues tackled in the book would come across as ‘corny’ in film form. Plus, how would a book made up entirely of letters work as a movie?! Again (unfortunately) I’m under embargo and can’t review the movie yet…but I will say the movie was absolutely fantastic. The film exceeded all of my expectations, and in my humble opinion, Logan Lerman needs to win an award for his performance as Charlie. Such a powerful performance. Especially after seeing his previous movies where he plays generally confident characters, this is a complete change for him, and he hits it out of the park. The film hits theaters on September 17th!
The night before the editing room visit and film screening, we had a great dinner with some of the new vampires of ‘Breaking Dawn Part 2′ – Toni Trucks, Erik Odom, Noel Fisher, and JD Pardo (the half vampire, half human, Nahuel). My photo with them is in the gallery below!
