I asked Stephenie Meyer about her thoughts on Saoirse Ronan as Melanie / Wanda in ‘The Host’ while at ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1‘ premiere. She says that she was unsure at first, saying “Melanie is older than that, I don’t know.” However, now she’s totally sold. “She’s so amazing. I can’t imagine anyone else bringing it to life,” says Meyer. Like many of us, she was worried about the age difference from the novel at first, but now trusts Saoirse Ronan with the demanding role. The first question about the book’s sequels, which was asked by Twilight Moms, was responded to with a vague answer. Meyer says, “I planned The Host as a trilogy. I have pieces of the other ones written, but I’ve been making a lot of movies this year so it hasn’t been a great year for writing.” Hopefully we’ll be getting the next two novels in ‘The Host’ trilogy soon. Ronan will be starring opposite Jake Abel and Max Irons in ‘The Host,’ based on Stephenie Meyer’s novel. Production begins early next year, and the film will be directed by Andrew Niccol who also directed the sci-fi concept piece, ‘In Time.’

Can’t wait for this movie, truly the Host had great luck landing an oscar nominated actress like Saoirse, even if she doesn’t look the part, I hope the fandom comes around accepts the cast.
Very very excited about this !
I wasn’t sure about Saoirse at first, just because she doesn’t really look the part of Melanie, but after seeing some of her acting, I’m pretty sure she can pull it off. It will take an amazing actress to play the part of a girl with two personalities!
Now that I have seen Stephenie’s reaction to Ronan, I feel better about the choise to cast her as Melanie/Wanderer
I have a feeling this is going to be rather good with Andrew Niccol as helmer and Saoirse Ronan as lead actress dealing with the dual role.
